Australian Lock Company would like to thank NBN Co for choosing Galaxy, BiLock Exclusive and BiLock as the preferred high security passkey systems on one of the largest infrastructure projects in Australia’s history.
The NBN Co project cost jumped from an estimated $29.5 billion before 2013, to $46-56 billion afterwards. In 2016, it was on target for $49 billion, but by late 2018 the estimated final cost was finalised at $51 billion.
NBN Co invited Australian Lock Company to visit the NBN Co Pre-Deployment Facility to discuss a locking solution for various racks and cabinets that the NBN were deploying around Australia. Australian Lock Company were able to ascertain the suitability of their locking systems for fit and function, which was part of their ‘Request for Quote’ process.
NBN Co’s Objective to their Master Keying:
NBN Co was seeking the service of a lock manufacturer that provided a high security master keying solution to their range of locks under a ‘Master Key Hierarchy’; to be able to secure the various range of NBN Co roadside cabinets located around Australia. All locks had to be SCEC/SEEPL Rated by the Security Construction and Equipment Committee (SCEC).
NBN Co’s requirement for all companies to have the resources to engineer custom products for this project:
Dual Padlock to suit Roadside Cabinets
NBN Co specified for all locks to be Quick Change Core, with the ability to change a Plug Assembly or a Codebar without removing the lock from the cabinet. Australian Lock Company’s Galaxy high security master key system was the perfect fit.
NBN Co and state-based electricity companies shared common infrastructure that needed to be accessed by both, however this infrastructure was under many different master keyed systems depending on the state and location. Australian Lock Company was able to provide a solution and ease of access for two different companies who to use two different keys, by modifying a Dual Padlock to accommodate a Galaxy Cylinder and a Power Industry Key. ALC has provided NBN Co with over 4,500 Galaxy cylinders for this project alone.
Half Euro Cylinder to suit Roadside Cabinets
Australian Lock Company has supplied over 84,000 Galaxy Euro half Cylinders to the NBN Co project.
Special Cylinder to suit CSD Locking Bar on CSD Cabinet
Australian Lock Company has worked closley with our sister company Lock Focus on numerous product designs for the NBN Co project, one of them being a special cylinder to suit the CSD Locking Bar.
Australian Lock Company’s Engineering team were asked to develop a special cylinder to suit the Southco Lift and Turn Handle that was currently on a wafer lock. In just a short period of time a BiLock New Generation 8-Pin Camlock was designed, manufactured and approved by NBN Co, while many of our major compitors were still in the design phase for over 6 months.
The NBN Co management team decided on a new keying system for head offices in Sydney and Melbourne. After several meetings and presentations, they decided that the BiLock Exclusive high security master key system was the perfect fit.
